We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Performance Engineer to join our team as a full-time contractor or employee. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing system performance across multiple tiers, with a strong focus on database performance in both cloud and on-prem environments.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and evaluate application, system, and ecosystem performance, with emphasis on data tier performance.
- Identify and resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks.
- Simulate user/system traffic and load, measure system response, and analyze component behavior.
- Optimize code, queries, and system configurations to enhance response time, scalability, and resource efficiency (CPU, memory, I/O).
- Interpret Oracle wait events, AWR raw data, and trace logs to diagnose performance issues.
- Generate and analyze AWR, ASH, and ADDM reports.
- Predict system behavior under full load/stress based on extrapolated data from representative loads.
- Present complex performance analysis and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Assess future performance needs based on application trends, traffic patterns, and growth projections.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and resolve system slowdowns or failures.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in application performance evaluation across multiple tiers.
- Strong experience in diagnosing and resolving performance and scalability bottlenecks.
- Proficiency in Oracle wait interface and event analysis.
- Extensive experience in performance tuning for large Oracle databases in AWS (50+ TB).
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Exadata databases and clusters.
- Experience with single-node non-Exadata database tuning.
- Proficiency in Linux shell scripting, SQL tuning, and session tracing.
- Skilled in generating and analyzing AWR, ASH, and ADDM reports.
- Ability to predict system behavior under load and stress conditions.
- Strong technical communication skills to convey insights to diverse audiences.
- Deep understanding of Oracle internals related to database performance.
- Experience in analyzing application behavior, performance, and interaction patterns with databases.
- Proficiency in technical writing and diagramming using tools like Visio, Erwin, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project).
- Ability to work across multiple teams, prioritize tasks, and deliver high-quality results on time.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Familiarity with JIRA software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Prior experience with an HHS agency.
- Experience handling Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Familiarity with HL7 data standards.
- Experience in the healthcare industry.
