Position Summary 
Texas Southern University (TSU) is seeking an experienced ADA Coordinator / Accessibility Compliance Officer (ACO) to lead and manage institutional accessibility compliance. The ACO will serve as the university’s primary authority on ADA compliance, disability access, and civil rights obligations. 

This role is both strategic and operational, responsible for overseeing accessibility compliance across academic, digital, physical, and administrative environments, while also supervising the Student Accessibility Services Office (SASO).  

Key Responsibilities
 
1. ADA Compliance & Governance 
  •  Lead university-wide compliance with ADA (Titles I & II), Sections 503, 504, and 508. 
  •  Serve as liaison to federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. 
  •  Manage ADA complaints, investigations, and resolution processes. 
  •  Act as the primary contact for accessibility-related concerns. 

2. Policy Development & Strategic Planning
  •  Develop and implement accessibility policies and procedures. 
  •  Advise leadership on compliance risks and accessibility initiatives. 
  •  Lead ADA-related planning and institutional improvement efforts. 

3. Accessibility & Accommodation Coordination
  •  Coordinate employee accommodations with HR. 
  •  Partner with Facilities, IT, Housing, and Campus Safety for accessibility improvements. 
  •  Ensure accessibility of digital platforms, instructional materials, and systems. 
  •  Oversee compliance with the Fair Housing Act for campus housing. 

4. Training & Awareness
  •  Conduct training sessions on ADA compliance and inclusive practices. 
  •  Provide technical guidance to faculty, staff, and students. 
  •  Co-chair ADA committees and promote campus-wide awareness. 

5. Investigations & Grievance Management
  •  Handle ADA complaints and conduct formal investigations. 
  •  Document findings and recommend corrective actions. 
  •  Maintain compliance records and reporting standards. 

6. Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
  •  Assess accessibility across physical, digital, and programmatic areas. 
  •  Identify compliance gaps and implement remediation strategies. 
  •  Ensure continuous compliance and risk mitigation practices. 

Required Qualifications
Education
  •  Master’s degree in: 
    •  Human Services 
    •  Counseling 
    •  Higher Education Administration 
    •  Public Administration or related field 

Experience
  •  Minimum 5+ years as an ADA Coordinator or similar role 
  •  Experience in: 
    •  ADA investigations and grievance resolution 
    •  Higher education or public sector environments 
    •  Cross-functional collaboration (HR, IT, Facilities, Academic Affairs)

Regulatory Knowledge
  •  ADA Titles I & II 
  •  Sections 503, 504, 508 
  •  Fair Housing Act 
  •  Texas Administrative Code (TAC 206 & 213) 
  •  DOJ Accessibility Regulations 

Technical Skills
  •  Document accessibility remediation (Word, PDF, PowerPoint) 
  •  Assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) 
  •  Digital accessibility standards 

Core Competencies

Preferred Qualifications
  •  ADA Coordinator Certification 
  •  Experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) 
  •  Prior experience in higher education institutions 

Reporting Structure
  •  Reports to: Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
  •  Works closely with: Student Accessibility Services Office (SASO)
