We are looking for a full-time contractor or employee to join our team as a Database Developer.
In this role, the Database Developer will be responsible for conducting advanced analysis and development to support, enhance, and optimize the performance of the database for a major project. This position requires a deep understanding of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, with significant experience in performance tuning of stored procedures and views. The developer will tackle complex problems, offer thought leadership, and provide regular project updates. This role falls under the IT-SEDS (Information Technology – Statewide Education Data System) division, and work is structured around a defined software development life cycle (SDLC) process with an Agile-like approach for implementing code changes within defined release cycles. You will collaborate with various agency stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of reports supporting Texas’s 1,200 school districts.
Responsibilities:
- Expertise in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including advanced techniques like bulk collect and handling data in JSON/XML formats
- Write and optimize complex Oracle queries to minimize SGA/PGA/TempSpace usage
- Work with JSON data in Oracle database tables, including storing, querying, and manipulating data
- Create and optimize complex queries and views using data stored in JSON format
- Enhance the performance of stored procedures and views accessing JSON data
- Maintain thorough documentation of development work
- Conduct development and unit testing
- Participate in Agile development processes
Required Skills:
- Expertise in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including advanced concepts like bulk collect and working with JSON/XML data
- Experience writing complex Oracle queries and optimizing them for performance (e.g., reducing SGA/PGA/TempSpace usage)
- Strong documentation skills
- Experience with development and unit testing
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
- Proficient in storing, querying, and manipulating JSON data in Oracle database tables
- Experience in creating complex queries and views using data stored in JSON format
- Ability to optimize the performance of stored procedures and views working with JSON data
