We are seeking a Oracle Performance Engineer to join our team as a full-time contractor or employee. This role focuses on analyzing, evaluating, and optimizing application, system, and ecosystem performance, with a strong emphasis on the data tier in both cloud and on-premises environments.
Responsibilities:
- Assess and optimize application and system performance across multiple tiers, particularly at the data layer.
- Identify and resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks.
- Simulate user/system traffic and analyze component behavior under load.
- Optimize code, queries, and system configurations to enhance response times, scalability, and resource efficiency (CPU, memory, I/O).
- Analyze Oracle wait events, AWR raw data, and system traces to interpret and correlate system performance.
- Generate and evaluate AWR, ASH, and ADDM reports.
- Predict system behavior under full load/stress based on representative load testing.
- Present complex performance findings, analysis, and metrics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Assess future performance requirements based on usage trends and growth projections.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and resolve performance issues.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in analyzing application performance across multiple tiers.
- Strong experience in identifying and resolving performance and scalability issues.
- Deep understanding of Oracle wait interface and event analysis.
- Experience with performance tuning of large Oracle databases in AWS (50+ TB).
- Experience working with large Oracle Exadata databases and clusters.
- Knowledge of single-node, non-Exadata database tuning.
- Proficiency in Linux shell scripting, SQL tuning, and session tracing.
- Strong experience with AWR, ASH, and ADDM report generation and analysis.
- Ability to extrapolate system behavior under representative load to predict performance under full stress.
- Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving performance bottlenecks.
- Strong knowledge of Oracle internals related to database performance.
- Understanding of application behavior and its impact on database performance and scalability.
- Ability to analyze application and data tier metrics to explain system behavior.
- Technical writing and diagramming skills, including proficiency with tools like Visio, Erwin, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project).
- Experience working across multiple teams, managing priorities, and delivering high-quality work on time.
Preferred SKills:
- Experience working in an Agile sprint team.
- Proficiency with JIRA software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience with a Health and Human Services (HHS) agency.
- Experience handling PII or PHI data.
- Familiarity with HL7 data standards.
- Background in the healthcare industry.
